Glass Guide
Toughened Clear Glass
Toughened glass is usually 4 – 5 x stronger than standard glass. It is qualified Grade A Safety Glass and complies with the requirements of Australian Standards AS 2208 and AS 1288 (Current) Glass in building – Selection and Installation
Top benefits:
- If broken, the glass shatters into tiny granules rather than breaking into dangerous large pieces. Allowing it to be safer than regular glass.
- Has a greater resistance to different temperatures. Can be subjected to high temperatures from 70°C to 290°C.
Things to consider:
- After the glass has been toughened, alterations in cutting the glass cannot be done.
Laminated Clear Glass
Laminated glass is two or more layers of glass bonded together permanently using a PVB interlayer. This glass provides better protection against UV rays and has a durable, noise reducing, and high-performance glazing material.
Top benefits:
- Offers increased security and protection
- Can still be cut and machined after being laminated
- Greater protection against UV rays
Things to consider:
- Difficult to break in a case of an emergency
E-Tech Lite Glass
E-tech Lite glass improves energy efficiency while providing natural light and ensuring the building is cool in summer and warm in winter. This smart glass has exceptional insulating properties which allow for less solar and UV radiation than regular glass. Available in 4 - 6mm toughened Grade A Safety Glass
Top benefits:
- Energy efficient with positive effects on heating costs
- Proven effectiveness for weather control
- Meets the highest performance and quality standards
- Can be toughened
Things to consider:
- Special care is required when cleaning E-Tech Lite Glass
E-Tech Lite Grey Glass
E-tech Lite glass improves energy efficiency while providing natural light and ensuring the building is cool in summer and warm in winter. This smart glass has exceptional insulating properties which allow for less solar and UV radiation than regular glass. Available in 4 - 6mm toughened Grade A Safety Glass
Top benefits:
- Energy efficient with positive effects on heating costs
- Proven effectiveness for weather control
- Meets the highest performance and quality standards
- Can be toughened
Things to consider:
- Special care is required when cleaning E-Tech Lite Glass
Double Glazed Glass
Double glazing is a premium application of bonding two pieces of glass together with a small air gap. This configuration offers desirable features such as considerable noise reduction & insulation.
Top benefits:
- Up to 80% noise reduction, great for busy roads, flight paths and highly populated areas.
- Energy efficient with positive effects on cooling and heating costs.
Things to consider:
- For increased insulation upgrade to Argon gas in lieu of air.
- Multiple glass types available for different configuration needs.
- Available in both residential & commercial product suites.
Obscure Glass
Obscured glass is generally used in the bathroom, toilet windows, or anywhere where privacy is most desired. The distorted patterns allow for light to come through while blocking the visibility.
Top benefits:
- Provides maximum privacy and appeal while being cost-effective
- Patterned glass does not streak easily
- Can be toughened or laminated to become a Grade A Safety Glass (AS2208 & AS1288) - except Satinlite
Things to consider:
- Obscured glass may reduce light levels depending on selected colour and tones.
