Building careers and creating future trades

Affinity Windows is proud to announce that our 2022 Apprentice Program is now live.
What is it?
Kicking off its maiden year, the Affinity Apprentice Program is designed to assist younger employees and school leavers in achieving practical, hands-on experience as a glazier at Affinity Windows.
A three-year program run through TAFE, the candidate has the opportunity to learn theory one day a week, with four days undertaking structured on-the-job training. Once completed, the Apprentice receives a Certificate III in Glass and Glazing, with a qualification as a Glazier with Affinity Windows.
Our TAFE Apprentice Program was initiated by BGC as a way to give back to the community, to create a pathway for young people wanting to enter the workforce, with a framework that helps them build their abilities and skills into a sustainable career. Our aim is to provide a better understanding of what’s available out there once they leave school.
What you’ll learn
The three-year Affinity Apprentice program empowers our Apprentices to learn glass from the inside out. You’ll work through every aspect of the glazing business; you’ll see how our glass window and door frames are made, learn how it’s all interconnected. You’ll then build skills in fitting the glazing, getting practical experience in how it all comes together during installation, so you understand the intricacies involved from start to finish.
You’ll learn all about our range of products and fitments, enabling you to understand every product and how it works. You’ll also work with a variety of trades and see a whole-house solution come to life, and gain an understanding of the full lifecycle of our glass door and window products.
At the close the Trainee finishes with a qualification, and expresses an interest in a specific role that pairs with their skillset with their interests.
While we only have a limited number of Apprentice positions available, it’s not a program that’s necessarily capped purely by numbers. Instead, our program is based on real, hands-on work that’s coming through our pipeline.
So by taking a long-term view of our contracts, we’re able to manage the amount of work available for our Apprentices, and create more opportunities to offer more apprenticeships in a sustainable way.
What you need to become an Apprentice at Affinity Windows
There are no strict requirements to undertake an Affinity Windows apprenticeship. You’ll be expected to have:
- Basic numeracy and literacy requirements
- An element of handiness that allows you to work with power tools
- An interest in working in a hands-on environment
- A degree of fitness to accommodate lifting and moving our different components. As there’s a physical component to the role, all Apprentices will undergo an initial medical assessment.
- School Leaver – OLNA or NAPLAN 9 Band 8
- Non-School Leaver – C Grades in Year 10 English and Math or equivalent
- CQF – Certificate I or Certificate II
Ultimately, though, it’s all about the right attitude. We’ve built a culture of diversity here at Affinity, and our Apprenticeship program will reflect this. Our focus is on finding the right person for the job: if you’ve got the attitude and the base level of skills, then we want to hear from you.
This is more than an apprenticeship
Our Apprentice program supports those who take it to take control of their career with Affinity.
By building their experience from the ground up, from basic theory through to working on the tools, at the end of the program their qualification as a Glazier shows that they’ve built the skills to secure their place as a valued part of our team.
Our Apprentice Program is designed to be more than simply growing the team at Affinity: we empower you to make an informed choice about your career.
